Last night, at 7:00 p.m., the Palkovitz Lobby at Beth Shalom buzzed with nerves, excitement and the whirring of electric razors. Five of our brave and dedicated growers for the 2011 season shaved their facial hair on Clean Shaven Day, basking in their newfound celebrity status as viewers clapped and photographed the event like the paparazzi who just ran into Britney Spears mid head-shave.
Even The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review came out to film the big event, carefully capturing each grower’s turn at the mirror. Then, when the shaving cream was finally wiped off and the table cleaned of our growers’ previous facial hair creations, the crowd celebrated the beginning of the season with cupcakes. And really, what better way to celebrate a clean-shaven face than by smearing icing all over it?
So next time you’re in the building, look for Rabbi Michael Werbow and Cantor Ben Rosner, and congregants Joel, Phillip, and Brad, and compliment them on their baby’s bottom-smooth cheeks and chins. Other growers include Will and Miles. Good luck to all our growers!
Check back for weekly updates on all of their fundraising efforts, view week-by-week photographs of their mustaches, and more. Don’t forget to donate to the cause while you’re here, and support Congregation Beth Shalom as well as Pittsburgh Public Schools. (Donating $1 per day to the grower of your choice for a wonderful donation of $30 for this year!)
And mark your calendars for the “Stache Bash at Beth Shalom on Saturday, April 2 from 8:00-11:00 p.m. Details to come.
